GENERAL SIMON B. BUCKNER - SIGNATURE(S) 03/19/1894. SIMON BOLIVAR BUCKNER His signature on a card, dated 1894, framed in the Gallery of History style with his picture in Confederate uniform to 23x18. Signature: "S B Buckner./Mar. 19./1894", 1 page, 3½x2½ card. Charged with maintaining Kentucky's neutrality at the start of the Civil War, Buckner eventually joined the Confederate Army and was made a Brigadier General in September 1861. He was forced to surrender Fort Donelson (Tennessee) to General Ulysses S. Grant a personal friend, in February 1862, and was sent to a Union prison. After being exchanged, he served in Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana, being promoted to Lieutenant General in 1864. After the war, he was Governor of Kentucky (1887-1891) and was an unsuccessful Democratic vice-presidential candidate in 1896. At the time of his death in 1914, he was the last living Confederate Lieutenant General. Fine condition. Framed in Gallery of History Style: 23x17¾. For more information contact HistoryForSale.
